The A-397 to Ronda
Starting at San Pedro de Alcántara, the road climbs through the Sierra de las Nieves with genuine mountain scenery and almost no traffic outside weekends. Ninety minutes each way at a sensible pace. The Shorter Option: Istán
Twenty-five minutes inland from Marbella, a smaller mountain road to a reservoir and a white village, with views back down over the whole coast. It is a half-day rather than a full one and it fits comfortably inside a mileage cap. For a two or four-hour hire this is the right route.
What Not to Do
The coast road between Marbella and Puerto Banús in August is a car park with speed cameras. Spanish speed enforcement is active and fines for foreign-registered drivers are collected at the roadside. Driving slowly along the Banús front is a legitimate part of the experience for about ten minutes; it is not a day out.
Structuring the Day With a Companion
A supercar day works as a genuine day out — collect the car mid-morning, drive inland, lunch somewhere with a view, and back by early evening. Companion day rates run €2,500–€5,500 for a full day and less for a half. A shape that works.
A Realistic Day
Collect at ten, up the A-397, arrive in Ronda around midday, lunch and a walk, back down by four or five. That leaves the evening entirely intact for dinner, which is the right way round — the drive is a daytime activity and these cars are considerably less enjoyable after dark on unlit mountain roads.
