- The 2026 Feria de Málaga ran from 15 to 22 August, opened by drones and fireworks over the port at midnight on Friday 14 August.
- By day the fair fills the historic centre (12:00 to 18:00); by night it moves to Cortijo de Torres, with 120 casetas in 2026.
- Avanza buses from Marbella take 45–60 minutes and cost €7.81–€9.80; in summer 2026 the last bus back left Málaga at midnight.
- The plan that works: arrive by midday, stop at 18:00, then bus home or take the €2 Line F to the night fair.
- August afternoons average 31.5 °C, so most clients do the fair alone and meet a companion back in Marbella.
On a feria afternoon, Calle Marqués de Larios is one slow crowd from the Alameda to Plaza de la Constitución, with a verdiales band playing halfway along. Málaga is 60 km from Marbella, and done well, the feria is the best day out the Costa del Sol offers in August. Done badly, it is a hot queue for a bus. Clients of our Marbella Escorts Agency who try it tend to do one or the other, and the difference is almost always timing. The Málaga feria works as a day trip from Marbella if you arrive around midday, spend the afternoon in the centre's day fair (12:00 to 18:00), then either take the bus home or move on to the night fair at Cortijo de Torres; trying to do both halves in one day is the classic mistake.
If you would rather stay in the city, our page on escorts in Málaga covers bookings there. This guide is for the day trip.
When Is the Málaga Feria, and What Does It Celebrate?
The Feria de Málaga is the city's August fair, held in the week around 15 August to commemorate the Catholic Monarchs' capture of Málaga in August 1487. In 2026 it opened with fireworks at midnight on Friday 14 August and ran from Saturday 15 to Saturday 22 August. Dates for 2027 had not been published when we wrote this.
From 1487 to Cortijo de Torres
Isabella and Ferdinand took Málaga after a siege in August 1487, and the city first marked it with a procession on 15 August 1491. The modern fair dates from 1887, when the fourth centenary brought back processions, regattas, concerts and bullfights. It has since moved from the Muelle de Heredia to the Parque and Teatinos, and finally to Cortijo de Torres, beside the Palacio de Ferias. There was no feria in 1915–1918, 1940–1945 or 2020, as the Wikipedia history notes. The religious thread survives in the romería on the opening Saturday, when carriages and riders gather on the Paseo del Parque at 10:00 and escort an offering to the Santuario de la Victoria.
Opening Night Over the Port
The fair starts the night before its first full day. In 2026 the historical parade left Plaza de la Merced at 20:00 on Friday 14 August, the keys of the city were handed over in Plaza de la Aduana at 20:30, and at 23:50 two drone shows (440 drones in all) rose from the Dique de Levante and San Andrés. At midnight came 20 minutes of fireworks, 5,694 effects fired from the road to the cruise terminal, with traffic restricted along the Paseo de la Farola and La Malagueta. It is spectacular and logistically awkward: the show ends after the last Avanza bus to Marbella has left. Stay the night in Málaga or book a driver; the city's official feria page posts the programme and maps.
The Day Fair: Calle Larios and the Historic Centre
From midday to 18:00 the historic centre is the fair: verdiales bands on Calle Marqués de Larios, music in Plaza de la Constitución and the smaller squares, flamenco at the Peña Juan Breva and bars spilling into the streets. It is free and packed, and the city closes the centre to traffic for exactly those hours.
Verdiales, Flamenco and Cartojal
Verdiales are Málaga's own folk music, of old rural origin: a fandango from the Montes de Málaga, the Axarquía and the Guadalhorce valley, played by a panda of violin, guitars, tambourine and cymbals, led by an alcalde carrying a staff, the players in hats piled with flowers and ribbons. The 2026 programme put two pandas a day on Calle Larios, from 13:00 and 14:00, and gave them a caseta of their own at the night fair. Flamenco ran daily at 15:00 at the Peña Juan Breva on Calle Ramón Franquelo. The drink of the day fair is cartojal, a sweet, fortified pale cream from Bodegas Málaga Virgen that is drunk mostly in Málaga, served chilled.
Why Everything Stops at 18:00
The city's Bando de Feria sets the centre's hours at 12:00 to 18:00, and the programme follows it: in 2026 the music in Plaza de la Constitución, Plaza de las Flores, Plaza del Obispo and Plaza de San Pedro Alcántara ran from 13:00 or 15:00 until 18:00 every day. Vehicle access to the historic centre is cut for the same hours, and normal traffic returns around 21:00. Treat 18:00 as your deadline: by then you will have had six hours on your feet in the hottest part of the day. If you want a sit-down lunch, book it for 14:00 and book it well ahead. Our guide to flamenco in Marbella's old town covers the same art closer to home.
The Night Fair at the Real de Cortijo de Torres
The Real is the fairground at Cortijo de Torres, beside the Palacio de Ferias, a bus or taxi ride from the centre. In 2026 it held 120 casetas, around 100 rides and 234 food and game stalls. Horses and carriages parade through it from 12:00 to 20:00 each day, and special night buses run from 20:00 until 06:00.
Casetas, Horses and Verdiales
The 2026 lights went on at 22:00 on Saturday 15 August, after the opening speech at 21:30 on Avenida de las Malagueñas. From then on the days followed a pattern: carriages and horses along the official route from 12:00 to 20:00, the municipal flamenco and copla caseta at 14:00 and 23:00, a horse show at 16:00 and 22:00 at the equestrian centre on Calle Antonio Rodríguez Sánchez, and verdiales in their own caseta from 22:00 to 03:00. The casetas are run by peñas, clubs, unions and businesses, and names on the official list such as El Pimpi, Peña Er Salero and the Federación Malagueña de Peñas tell you how local it is.
Getting There and Back
The simplest route from the centre is the EMT's Line F, which in 2026 ran around the clock from the north side of the Alameda, between Calle Larios and Puerta del Mar, for €2, payable by card. Taxis work from two ranks open all night, one by the main gateway on Avenida de las Malagueñas and one on Avenida de Ortega y Gasset, and ride-hailing cars use a marked pick-up zone on the Ortega y Gasset service road. For drivers, the city laid out 3,185 parking spaces around the grounds, including 870 at Huerta de Correo and 640 in Teatinos. Do not drive there from Marbella unless someone sober is driving back.
Day Fair vs Night Fair: Which Half Suits You?
They are different events. The day fair is central, free and over by 18:00, the right choice for a first visit, a long lunch and the verdiales. The night fair is a bus or taxi ride away, louder and much later. From Marbella, pick one half per trip; doing both means a 14-hour day in August heat.
The Two Halves Compared
| Day fair (centre) | Night fair (Real) | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | Calle Marqués de Larios, Plaza de la Constitución and the squares around them | Cortijo de Torres, beside the Palacio de Ferias |
| Hours (2026) | 12:00 – 18:00 | Horses 12:00 – 20:00; night buses 20:00 – 06:00 |
| Atmosphere | Street party, verdiales, flamenco, long lunches | Casetas, rides, concerts, dancing until dawn |
| Dress | Linen, flat shoes, a hat | Smart-casual, a layer for later |
| From Marbella | Avanza bus, 45 – 60 min, €7.81 – €9.80 | Bus to Málaga, then Line F (€2), or a car with driver |
| Best for | A first visit and a day trip | A night with a hotel in Málaga |
Which One We Suggest First
The day fair, almost always. It is the part of the feria unlike anything in Marbella, and it ends at a civilised hour, so you can be back for dinner by 21:00. The night fair is a much larger version of Marbella's own Feria de San Bernabé, and it makes most sense if you are staying in the city. Midweek is not the quiet option, either: the EMT carried 1,784,827 passengers over the eight days of the 2026 fair, and its busiest day ever was Tuesday 18 August, with 209,059. Our Málaga city guide covers where to stay if you decide to make a night of it.
Marbella to the Feria: Bus, Train, Car or Taxi
Take the bus. Avanza runs Marbella to Málaga all day, about 45 minutes direct or an hour via the airport, for €7.81 to €9.80 one way in 2026. The train means a bus to Fuengirola first. Driving works only if you park once in a central car park and leave the car until you go home.
Bus and Train Times
From Marbella bus station, Avanza's 2026 fares to Málaga were €7.81 standard, €8.00 direct and €9.80 express. On the summer 2026 timetable the 10:20 reached Málaga at 11:05, and the last buses back left Málaga at 23:00 and midnight, both via the airport, arriving an hour later. The rail option is a €4.05 bus to Fuengirola and then the C-1 Cercanías line to Málaga-Centro Alameda, about 45 minutes; on Renfe's current timetable the last train back to Fuengirola leaves Alameda at 23:30, and you still need a taxi on to Marbella. Our airport transfer guide compares the same corridor in detail.
Car, Toll and Taxi
By car it is 60 km. The AP-7 toll at Calahonda cost a car €9.25 in the June to September high season of 2026 and €5.70 the rest of the year; the free A-7 is slower and busy in August. Park once: the eight municipal car parks in and around the centre, from Plaza de la Marina to the Alcazaba and Camas, offer 5,066 spaces, stay open around the clock during the fair, and averaged 81% occupancy during day-fair hours in 2026. By taxi, the Junta's interurban tariff (€0.71 a kilometre, €0.82 at night, weekends and holidays, charged as a round trip) puts Marbella to Málaga at roughly €85–€100 each way. If you need a car, see our car hire guide.
How to Structure a Feria Day From Marbella
Leave Marbella mid-morning, be on Calle Larios by midday, eat at 14:00, catch the 15:00 flamenco and stop at 18:00 when the centre's programme ends. Then choose: an evening bus home and dinner in Marbella, or Line F to the night fair. August afternoons average 31.5 °C in Málaga, so pace yourself.
A Timetable That Works
- 10:20: bus from Marbella, in Málaga at 11:05 on the summer 2026 timetable.
- 11:30 to 14:00: Calle Larios and the squares; verdiales on Larios from 13:00.
- 14:00: lunch, booked in advance and away from Larios itself.
- 15:00: flamenco at the Peña Juan Breva, Calle Ramón Franquelo 4.
- 18:00: the centre's programme ends; walk back to the bus.
- 18:30 or 19:00: bus to Marbella, in time to change for a 21:30 dinner; or Line F to the Real if you are staying in Málaga.
Heat, Water and Crowds
AEMET's averages for Málaga airport give August a mean high of 31.5 °C and 322 hours of sunshine, with a record of 44.0 °C, and the packed streets of the centre feel hotter. Drink water between rounds, wear a hat, keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket, and agree a meeting point, such as the Alameda end of Calle Larios, in case you are separated. Mobile networks have a history of saturating around the Real. The scale shows in the clean-up: the city collected 1,267 tonnes of rubbish from the centre and the Real over the eight days of 2026. Our peak-season guide covers August on the coast generally.
Booking a Companion for the Feria, or for After It
Two formats work. A companion can join you in Málaga for the day fair, which is a long booking on foot in the heat, or, more often, you do the fair yourself and meet her back in Marbella for dinner. Málaga is outside Marbella, so the minimum is two hours and you pay her taxi, and we say so when we quote if the distance adds to the price.
A Companion for the Day Fair
Six hours in a crowd at over 30 °C is a real ask, so we brief it like an event: meeting point, plan, lunch reservation and return. A dinner date is three hours at least, from €900, so a full feria afternoon is priced at €300 an hour, with her taxi to Málaga on top, and we say so when we quote if the distance adds to it. The companions who enjoy it like a party and a crowd, which makes our party companions the natural fit; the dress is a light summer dress, flat sandals and a hat. If you would rather finish the evening between Málaga and Marbella, Torremolinos sits on the same train and bus routes, and our Torremolinos escorts page covers bookings there.
Meeting Back in Marbella
The format most clients choose is simpler: take the 18:30 or 19:00 bus back, shower, and meet a companion for dinner in Marbella at 21:30. A dinner date is three hours at least, from €900, an outcall in central Marbella €300 an hour and an overnight €3,000 to €4,000 depending on the companion and the length. August and weekends cost the same as any other day, though the best companions book up sooner. You pay her directly before the booking starts, in cash, by bank transfer or in crypto; a booking made in advance takes a 25 per cent deposit by transfer or crypto, to her or to us, with the balance paid to her at the start. Message us in the morning and the evening is confirmed before you leave Málaga; our dinner-date companions are the usual choice.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the Málaga feria in 2027?
The city had not published 2027 dates when we wrote this. The fair falls in the week around 15 August and traditionally opens with fireworks on a Friday night; in 2026 that was Friday 14 August, with the fair running to Saturday 22 August. Check the Ayuntamiento's feria page before booking hotels.
Is the Málaga feria free?
Yes. The day fair in the historic centre, the parades, the opening fireworks and entry to the fairground at Cortijo de Torres cost nothing. You pay for food and drink, the rides, the €2 Line F bus to the Real and the bullfights at La Malagueta, which are ticketed.
What time is the last bus from Málaga to Marbella?
On Avanza's summer 2026 timetable the last departures from Málaga to Marbella were at 23:00 and midnight, both via the airport and arriving about an hour later. That is too early for the night fair, so plan a taxi, a car with driver or a hotel in Málaga if you want to stay late.
What should I wear to the Málaga feria?
Light, breathable clothes, flat shoes and a hat for the day fair, since August afternoons average 31.5 °C and you will be on your feet for hours. Many locals wear flamenco dress or the short Andalusian riding jacket, but nobody expects it of visitors. Bring a light layer for the night fair.
Can I book a companion for the Málaga feria from Marbella?
Yes. A companion can join you in Málaga for the day fair, with a two-hour minimum and her taxi paid by you, or meet you back in Marbella for dinner after the bus home, which is what most clients choose. Send us the date and your plan by WhatsApp and we will confirm availability.
Planning a Feria Day in Málaga?
Tell us the date, whether you want company for the day fair or for dinner back in Marbella, and roughly when your bus or driver gets in. We will confirm who is available, the price, with her taxi to Málaga if you want company there, and a meeting time that fits the feria rather than fights it.
