Key Takeaways:
  • Mijas holds three summer fairs: Las Lagunas in late June, La Cala in late July, Mijas Pueblo in early September.
  • The village fair peaks on 8 September, the Virgen de la Peña's feast day, with the procession at 21:00.
  • It is walkable: day fair at La Muralla, caseta municipal by Plaza Virgen de la Peña, a 500-space car park beside both.
  • From Marbella it is about 36 km and 35 minutes; the last M-122 bus down to Fuengirola leaves the village at 22:00, so plan a car.
  • Companion bookings in Mijas have a two-hour minimum, €600 at €300 an hour, and the client pays her taxi up the hill.

On the night of 8 September, Mijas Pueblo carries its patron, the Virgen de la Peña, through its own streets, and the whole fair fits inside a village you can cross on foot in a quarter of an hour. Marbella's San Bernabé fills a town of 160,000 for a week in June; Mijas splits its fairs between three centres and three months. As an escort agency in Marbella that sends companions up that hill most weeks, we care more about parking and the last bus than about folklore, and those decide whether the evening works. Mijas holds three summer fairs (Las Lagunas in late June, La Cala in late July and Mijas Pueblo in early September), and the village fair around 8 September is the one worth the 35-minute drive from Marbella.

For the village itself and everyday bookings there, our Mijas escorts page has the detail. This guide covers the fair calendar and the logistics of a feria night.

Which Fairs Does Mijas Hold, and When?

Three, one for each of its centres. Las Lagunas holds its feria in late June (24 to 28 June in 2026), La Cala de Mijas in late July (21 to 26 July) and Mijas Pueblo in early September, around 8 September, the Virgen de la Peña's feast day. Each has a different crowd.

Las Lagunas: The June Opener

Las Lagunas is the flat, commercial part of Mijas that runs into Fuengirola, and its fair feels like a town fair. In 2026 it ran from Wednesday 24 June, lights on at 22:00, to Sunday 28 June, with the day fair moved from Avenida Miguel Hernández to the Lagar Don Elías estate. The horse ride returned on Saturday 27 June, from Camino de Campanales to the cortijo. One detail we liked: music went off every day from 19:00 to 21:00 for children who struggle with noise. It is a neighbourhood party first and a visitor's evening a distant second.

La Cala: The Seaside Week in July

La Cala de Mijas is the coastal centre, about 22 km from Marbella and the closest of the three. Its 2026 fair ran from Tuesday 21 to Sunday 26 July around the Torreón, the old watchtower by the beach, with concerts in the caseta municipal every night. The day fair opened at 14:00 on Friday 24 July, and the horse ride left the El Chaparral school at 20:00 the next evening. Expect a holiday crowd, July heat and a fair that blends into the beach bars. Pleasant if you are staying in La Cala; not worth the drive from Marbella on its own.

Mijas Pueblo: The September Fair

The village fair is the one with a reason behind it. The 2026 programme opened with the pregón, the speech that inaugurates a feria, on Sunday 6 September, then ran from Monday 7 to Saturday 12 September: a giants-and-big-heads parade and the lights on the 7th, Mass and the procession on the 8th, free concerts in the caseta municipal on the following nights (Camela at 23:00 on the 9th, Medina Azahara at midnight on the 10th), and on the last Saturday a mock bull run at 18:00 and the horse parade from 19:00. For the village outside fair week, see our Mijas Pueblo guide.

8 September and the Virgen de la Peña

The Virgen de la Peña is the patron of Mijas, and 8 September, her day, is a local holiday. Tradition dates her apparition to two shepherds in 1586, where her hermitage now stands in El Compás. The day runs Mass in the morning, the day fair in the afternoon and the procession at night. Plan the evening around the procession.

The Procession Route

In 2026 the procession left at 21:00 and carried the image through La Muralla, Cuesta de la Villa, Plaza de la Constitución, Avenida del Compás, Los Caños, Plaza de la Libertad, the Carril and Coín streets and the Barrio Santana before returning her to the shrine. That is most of the old village, so expect the centre to be closed to cars while it passes. Pick your spot by 20:30: once the procession is inside the narrow lanes, nobody moves for a while. Plaza de la Constitución is the obvious place to stand, so expect company. The brotherhood had marked 440 years since the apparition earlier in 2026, on 2 June.

Day Fair, Caseta and Late Nights

The day fair under the walls at La Muralla opened at 13:30 on 8 September 2026 and ran each afternoon until 20:00: bars, live music and a local crowd eating and drinking on its feet. The evenings belong to the caseta municipal by Plaza Virgen de la Peña, where the concerts are free and start late, at 23:00 or midnight. During fair week the town hall runs night shuttles to La Cala and Las Lagunas, the last leaving Fuente de la Seda at 05:00, which tells you how late the village stays up. From Marbella, the useful window is 20:00 to 01:00.

Casetas, Horses and Sevillanas: What You Will See

A caseta municipal with free concerts, bars under the old walls, plenty of locals in flamenco dress, a horse parade on the closing Saturday and sevillanas whenever the band plays one. It is the standard Andalusian feria kit at village scale, and the crowd is overwhelmingly local.

What a Caseta Is

A caseta is a temporary marquee with a bar, a kitchen and a dance floor, put up for fair week and run by a club, a brotherhood, a business or the town hall. Big-city ferias have whole streets of them: Málaga's official 2026 list ran to 120. Mijas Pueblo's fair revolves around one, the caseta municipal, which is free to enter and where the headline concerts happen. Seville's April fair is famous for private casetas open only to members and guests; at a village fair like this one you simply walk in. Our Málaga feria day-trip guide covers the big-city version.

Horses, Dress and Sevillanas

The horse parade closes the village fair, and Las Lagunas and La Cala each have their own ride. Riders wear the traje corto, the short jacket with a flat-brimmed hat, and many local women wear flamenco dress for the evening; nobody expects either from a visitor. Sevillanas are the four-part pair dance that starts the moment the band plays one; watching is perfectly acceptable. Our San Bernabé guide explains the dress and the rebujito in more detail, and our post on a private Andalusian horse show covers the horses themselves.

Is There Still a Mijas International Day?

Not in its old form. Mijas created a Día Internacional de los Pueblos for its foreign residents in 1989, and it grew into a multi-day International Festival in the village. The town hall later replaced it with smaller events, and the multicultural slot now belongs to newer festivals such as Somos Uno in La Cala.

What the International Festival Was

The council's foreign residents' department launched the Día Internacional de los Pueblos in 1989: a day of folklore, food and customs from each country with residents in Mijas. It grew into the International Festival, spread across the village's main squares and streets, with stands from up to 26 nationalities and up to four stages running 12 hours of music and dance a day. After some 25 years the department took what it calls a new direction, with smaller single-country friendship days. The town hall's archive of past activities keeps the record, and the Spanish Wikipedia entry on Mijas noted in January 2025 that it is no longer held.

Somos Uno and a Third of the Town

The nearest thing today is the Somos Uno festival on the boulevard in La Cala: its second edition ran from 28 to 31 May 2026, with food, crafts and dance from 11 countries, organised by the Asociación Cubanos Unidos with council support. According to INE's 2025 annual census, 30,618 of Mijas's 94,320 residents held a foreign nationality on 1 January 2025, about one in three, and 7,138 had been born in the United Kingdom. Hence all the English in La Cala, and hence the contrast with the September fair, which still feels emphatically Spanish.

Mijas Feria vs Marbella's San Bernabé

Marbella's San Bernabé is the bigger event: a week in mid-June split between a day fair in the centre and a night fair on the fairground, with taxis in between. Mijas Pueblo's is a village fair in early September where everything sits within a few minutes' walk. Choose Marbella for scale, Mijas for an easy evening.

When We Suggest the Village

Timing is the argument for Mijas. Its fair lands in the first fortnight of September, after the August peak, and 8 September fell on a Tuesday in 2026, so the village was busy rather than impossible. We steer clients there when they want one well-shaped evening: the procession at 21:00, a drink in the caseta, dinner, and back in Marbella by one. For rides, a street of casetas and dancing until five, San Bernabé in June is the better fair. Our September in Marbella guide covers what else fills the month.

Getting There From Marbella: Car, Taxi or Bus

Drive or take a taxi. Mijas Pueblo is about 36 km and 35 minutes from central Marbella, along the coast and up the hill from Fuengirola. Buses work by day only: on the current timetable the last M-122 from the village down to Fuengirola leaves at 22:00, an hour before most concerts start.

Parking in the Village

The Virgen de la Peña car park on Plaza Fuente de la Seda is the answer: about 500 spaces over ten levels, open 24 hours, beside the town hall and the hermitage, and therefore beside the fair. Since 2022 the first hour has been free, with a modest hourly charge after that. Expect it to fill on 8 September and on the big concert nights, so arrive by 20:00. The old village is a tangle of steep, narrow lanes that nobody should drive during a procession, and a feria evening is not one to drive home from: if you are drinking, book a driver or a taxi both ways.

Taxi, Driver or Bus

Taxis between towns charge the Junta de Andalucía's interurban tariff, frozen for 2026 at €0.71 a kilometre on weekday daytimes and €0.82 at night, weekends and holidays, counted as a round trip unless you agree otherwise. For Mijas Pueblo that works out at roughly €50–€60 each way at the official maximum; agree the price and book the return when you go up. The bus is a daytime option: Avanza's Marbella–Fuengirola leg cost €4.05 in 2026, and the M-122 climbs to the village in 25 minutes, last one up at 21:30. Our guide to getting around without a car has the wider picture.

Booking a Companion for a Mijas Feria Evening

Treat it as an outcall outside Marbella. Mijas has a two-hour minimum, so €600 at our €300 an hour, and a dinner date of three hours or more starts at €900; the client pays her taxi. Tell us the night, the car arrangements and whether the procession or a concert is the priority.

Rates, the Two-Hour Minimum and Her Taxi

The two-hour minimum applies to every booking outside Marbella, Mijas included, and the client pays her taxi to the village, at the interurban fare described above; we say what it will be when we quote. For the fair itself, a dinner date of three hours or more, from €900, is the format that makes sense, or an overnight (€3,000–€4,000, depending on the companion and the length) if you are staying up the hill. 8 September 2026 fell on a Tuesday, but our rate would have been the same on a Saturday, because we charge no weekend or fair-week premium; the village is busier at a weekend, so a Saturday evening wants an earlier booking. You pay her directly before the booking starts, by cash, bank transfer (to her or to us) or crypto. A booking made in advance, as a feria evening usually is, carries a 25% deposit by transfer or crypto, to her or to us, with the balance paid to her at the start. Our payment guide explains the options.

A Companion Who Knows Feria

A feria is easier with someone who grew up with them. A Spanish companion knows when the sevillanas start and when to stand back for the procession, and she can talk to the people around you in their own language. Linda is the Spanish companion on our books, and her profile shows her availability; if she is booked, we will suggest who else is comfortable in a crowd like this. Mention the fair in your first message, so we match the companion to the evening.

What to Wear and When to Arrive

Smart-casual, built for slopes: the old village is cobbles and gradients, so flat shoes or block heels for her, and loafers rather than new leather soles for you. Linen and a light layer for after midnight is plenty. Arrive by 20:00 on 8 September to park and reach the route before the procession; on concert nights, aim for 22:30 and eat first, in the village or down in Fuengirola. If the evening carries on, our Fuengirola escorts page covers the town 15 minutes below the village.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Mijas feria in 2027?

The Mijas Pueblo fair is built around 8 September, the Virgen de la Peña's feast day, which falls on a Wednesday in 2027. Expect the programme to cover roughly that week, as in 2026 (7 to 12 September). The 2026 programme appeared in mid-August.

Is the Mijas feria free to attend?

Yes. The day fair at La Muralla, the procession and the concerts in the caseta municipal are free; in 2026 even the Camela concert was free until the tent was full. You pay for food, drink, the rides and parking after the first free hour.

How far is Mijas Pueblo from Marbella?

About 36 km by road, roughly 35 minutes from central Marbella outside rush hour. The route follows the coast towards Fuengirola and climbs to the village, which sits around 430 metres above sea level. By bus you change in Fuengirola, and the last M-122 down from the village leaves at 22:00.

What is the difference between the three Mijas fairs?

Las Lagunas holds a town fair in late June, La Cala a seaside fair in late July, and Mijas Pueblo the patron saint's fair in early September, with the procession on the 8th. Only the village fair has a religious heart, and it is the one we recommend to visitors.

Can I bring a companion to the Mijas feria?

Yes. Mijas is outside Marbella, so the minimum is two hours at €300 an hour, and a dinner date of three hours or more starts at €900. The client pays her taxi up the hill. Tell us the date, whether you will drive or use a car with a driver, and whether the procession or a concert matters more.

Planning a Feria Night in Mijas?

Send us the date, where you are staying and how you plan to get up the hill. We will confirm who is free, quote the rate and her taxi, and suggest a pick-up time that gets you to the procession before it starts.
