- Villa Padierna is a Tuscan-style palace hotel in the Benahavís hills, built by the developer Ricardo Arranz and run by Anantara since 2019
- The Michelin Guide lists 125 rooms, suites and villas and gave the hotel one Michelin Key in Spain's first Key selection in 2024
- The pool villas, 200 to 495 m² with their own pool and terrace, are the rooms that change how a stay works
- Arranz put the hotel up for sale in March 2025 at an asking price of €150 million; no sale had been announced when we wrote this
- Benahavís is a separate municipality from Marbella, so the shortest booking here is two hours, €600, plus her taxi
The first thing guests notice is the colour. Most five-stars on this coast are white; Villa Padierna is the pink of a Florentine villa, with cypresses, marble columns and a Roman amphitheatre on a hill above the Los Flamingos golf estate. Clients who stay here tend to ask us two questions, which villa to book and how an evening visit works, and the second one is easier than people expect. The hotel sits in the municipality our Benahavís escorts page covers, and it is one of the resorts on our list of escort-friendly hotels in Marbella. Anantara Villa Padierna Palace is a 125-key palace hotel with pool villas, three golf courses, a 2,000 m² spa and a beach shuttle, about ten minutes inland from the coast, and in 2026 it remains the most theatrical place to stay between Marbella and Estepona.
What Is Anantara Villa Padierna Palace?
It is a five-star Gran Lujo resort in Benahavís, built in the style of a Tuscan palace by the Spanish developer Ricardo Arranz and opened in the early 2000s. The Ritz-Carlton ran it for a spell, and since 2019 Anantara, the luxury brand of Thailand's Minor Hotels, has operated it. It belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World.
Ricardo Arranz's Palace on the Flamingos Estate
Arranz bought the land in the hills behind the coast road in the early 1990s with a golf resort in mind, and most accounts date the hotel's opening to 2003. The brief was Italian, not Andalusian: an ochre-pink main building, loggias, marble columns, hundreds of antiques and an amphitheatre for concerts and weddings. The local decorator Jaime Parladé worked on the interiors. Between about 2006 and 2011 the hotel traded under The Ritz-Carlton, and in August 2010 Michelle Obama stayed here with her daughter Sasha; one of the two-bedroom villas is still listed as Villa Obama.
Anantara Since 2019, and the For-Sale Sign
Anantara arrived after its parent, Minor Hotels, bought control of Spain's NH Hotel Group in 2018; Villa Padierna became the brand's first resort in Spain. Arranz kept the building. In March 2025 the Spanish property press reported that he had hired JLL to sell it, at an asking price of €150 million, after a fund that had valued it at €140 million walked away. We found no completed sale by October 2026. For a guest, nothing has changed yet: same name, same staff, same rates. We will update this page if the owner or operator changes.
Rooms, Suites and Pool Villas: Which to Book
Book a suite with a golf or lake view if you mainly want the spa and the restaurants, and a pool villa if you want privacy. The hotel's 125 keys range from rooms of 19 to 90 m² through 66 suites of 43 to 250 m² to villas of 200 to 495 m² with a private pool and terrace.
The Three Kinds of Key
| Category | Size | What you get | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rooms | 19 – 90 m² | Green or lake view, travertine bathroom | A short golf or spa stay |
| Suites (66) | 43 – 250 m² | Separate sitting room; attic suites at the top | Couples staying a week |
| Pool villas | 200 – 495 m² | Private pool, terrace, one or two bedrooms | Privacy, longer visits, families |
Sizes are the hotel's own. The registered unit count has varied over the years between about 125 and 132 as rooms were combined; the Michelin Guide's listing, which gives 125, is the current figure.
Why the Villas Are a Different Hotel
The villas stand in the grounds apart from the main building, each with its own pool and terrace. That matters more than the square metres. You eat breakfast outside without a dining room, you swim without a sunbed war, and visitors come and go along a garden path rather than through the lobby and up a corridor. In our experience the guests who return to Villa Padierna are mostly villa guests; the ones who try a room once often move to the Golden Mile the following year.
What a Night Costs in 2026
Independent reviews updated in June 2026 put entry-level rooms from about €300 a night without breakfast out of season. The hotel's packages, such as a spa and golf stay or a romance package with dinner, start at roughly €1,000 to €1,500. Villas are priced individually and climb steeply in July and August. For context, INE, Spain's statistics office, put the average price per occupied room across all Marbella hotels at €416 in July 2026, so a villa here in high summer costs several times the coast's average.
La Veranda, La Loggia and Eating In
La Veranda is the fine-dining room, open in the evening from 19:30 to 23:00 with a long wine list. La Loggia serves breakfast and a Mediterranean lunch on a terrace over the golf course, and the hotel also runs sushi, Italian and Lebanese menus. For a change of scene, Benahavís village is ten minutes away.
La Veranda After 19:30
La Veranda opened with Martín Berasategui's name on it, his first restaurant in Andalucía, and it still appears as "La Veranda by Martín Berasategui" on some listings; the hotel itself now presents it simply as Andalusian fine dining. Expect tableside service: beef tartare finished at the table, Chateaubriand with béarnaise, a serious Spanish and French list. It holds no Michelin star in 2026. Book it for the first evening, when nobody wants to get in a car, and ask for a terrace table from May to October.
La Loggia, Sushi and Lunch by the Pool
La Loggia is the daytime room, with Ibérico ham and eggs to order at breakfast and Italian-Spanish plates at lunch, indoors or on the terrace facing the fairways and, on a clear day, the sea. One 2026 review counts eight places to eat and drink across the estate, including a sushi counter, an Italian menu, light dishes at the pool and Hole55 by the golf course. The cypress-lined outdoor pool is not heated, so it is a May to October pool; in winter the spa's indoor pool takes over.
When to Leave the Estate for Dinner
By the third night, most guests want a street rather than a dining room. The obvious move is up the hill: our guide to the restaurants of Benahavís village lists the tables on Calle Málaga and the Plaza de España, about ten minutes by taxi. Puerto Banús is a similar distance in the other direction. Order the taxi through the concierge and book the return when you sit down, because cars from the coast are slow to come up the hill late on a weeknight.
The Spa, the Amphitheatre and 1,200 Works of Art
The spa covers about 2,000 m², with a Roman-style bath hall, a heated pool, a hammam, Greek and Finnish saunas, a flotation room and ten treatment rooms. Around it the grounds hold an amphitheatre, a private chapel and more than 1,200 works of art from the owner's collection.
Two Thousand Square Metres of Spa
Some guides still call it by its old name, Thermae. The centrepiece is a bath hall with marble and antique statues, and the circuit runs through three steam rooms, a sea-salt hammam, Greek and Finnish saunas, a heated pool, jets and a flotarium before a relaxation room. Ten treatment rooms handle massages and facials. Book the circuit for late afternoon, between golf and dinner; mornings fill with guests who have nothing else planned.
The Amphitheatre, the Chapel and the Corridors
Arranz filled the hotel from his own antiquities collection: seventeenth and eighteenth-century sculpture, Sevillian paintings and nineteenth-century work by Málaga artists, more than 1,200 pieces in all according to the hotel. Every corridor carries some of it. The amphitheatre below the main building seats summer concerts and weddings, and a small private chapel is booked mostly for the latter. If a wedding is on during your stay, the gardens and the bar are busier than usual on that Saturday; reception will tell you the dates if you ask before booking.
Golf, Racquets and the Beach Shuttle
Three 18-hole courses surround the hotel: Flamingos, par 71, Alferini, and the shorter Tramores, par 63. There is a racquet club with tennis, padel and squash, and a shuttle runs several times a day to a beach club on the coast, which the Michelin Guide names as Puro Beach.
Three Courses at the Door
Flamingos is the main course, about 5,714 metres from the back; Alferini is the more demanding layout; Tramores, at about 3,460 metres and par 63, suits a lesson or a short afternoon. Hotel guests book tee times through the concierge. We will cover Flamingos hole by hole in a separate post this winter, so here it is enough to say that a golfer can stay a week without driving to another club.
Getting to the Sea
The hotel is not on the beach and does not pretend to be. A complimentary shuttle runs down to its partner beach club several times a day, with loungers, umbrellas and a seafood restaurant at the other end. It suits a long lunch and an afternoon swim. If the sea is the point of your holiday, a beachfront hotel such as Hacienda del Mar in Estepona is the better base; if golf, spa and privacy come first, Villa Padierna wins.
Where Is Villa Padierna? Distances and Taxi Times
It stands on the Villa Padierna golf estate in Benahavís, inland from the A-7 between San Pedro Alcántara and Estepona. By car, Puerto Banús takes about 10 to 15 minutes, Marbella old town about 25, Estepona about 15, and Málaga airport 40 to 50 minutes by the toll road.
From the Gate
The estate road climbs from the coast past the clubhouses, and the hotel sits near the top with views back to the sea. Nothing is walkable except the golf and the spa, so plan every evening around a taxi or a driver; the hotel charges a daily fee to park a hire car. Gibraltar is about an hour away by car, and Ronda a little over an hour up the A-397 through the mountains, which makes a good day out for a non-golfer.
The Airport Run
Málaga airport is roughly 70 km east, 40 to 50 minutes by the AP-7 toll road and the A-7 past Marbella. Book the transfer before you land rather than queue for a taxi at arrivals in August; our comparison of Málaga airport transfers lists the options and fares. Check-in is from 15:00 and check-out at 12:00, so an early flight means a morning without a room. Ask for a late check-out when you book, not on the last day, especially for a villa in July and August.
Arranging a Companion Visit at Villa Padierna
Benahavís lies outside Marbella municipality, so a booking here starts at two hours, €600, and dinner dates start at three hours, €900. She comes by taxi, which you pay. In a villa she arrives along the garden path; in the main building she meets you in the lobby bar. The hotel only registers guests who stay the night.
Villa or Main Building
Nobody looks twice at a visitor in a resort of this size, with non-residents coming to dinner, the spa and weddings every evening. In a villa the arrival is simplest: send us the villa number and the time, and the taxi drops her at the gate the concierge names. In the main building, the cleanest version is a drink together in the bar or dinner at La Veranda first, then back to the suite. Allow a little more than the 25 to 30 minutes we quote inside Marbella, because the estate road adds time. Many clients here choose a dinner date and keep the evening on the estate.
The Money, Briefly
The hourly rate is €300, with the two-hour minimum that applies everywhere outside Marbella. A full night costs €3,000 to €4,000. Her taxi is the one extra, and it rises only for a very early start. Prices do not change at weekends or in August. Cash, a transfer or crypto, paid to her as the evening begins. No cards. A quarter goes in advance only when you book days ahead. Our pages on what a booking costs and how payment works have the detail.
Overnights and the Guest Register
Spanish hotels must record every guest aged 14 or over who stays the night, so on an overnight booking reception adds her as a second guest; an evening visit creates no record. Plans move on a golf holiday, so note the windows in our cancellation guide: free changes until 24 hours before a dinner and 48 hours before an overnight. Frequently Asked Questions
Is Villa Padierna in Marbella or Benahavís?
Benahavís. The hotel uses Marbella in its full name for international guests, but the Villa Padierna golf estate lies in the municipality of Benahavís, inland from the coast road between San Pedro Alcántara and Estepona. Puerto Banús is about 10 to 15 minutes away by car.
How many rooms does Anantara Villa Padierna Palace have?
The Michelin Guide lists 125 rooms, suites and villas. They run from rooms of about 19 m² to 66 suites and a set of pool villas of 200 to 495 m², each with a private pool. Older figures of 129 or 132 date from before some rooms were combined.
Does Villa Padierna have a Michelin-starred restaurant?
No. The hotel itself holds one Michelin Key, awarded in Spain's first Key selection in 2024, which rates the stay rather than the food. La Veranda, its fine-dining room, opened with Martín Berasategui's name attached but holds no star in 2026.
Is Villa Padierna on the beach?
No. It stands in the hills about ten minutes inland. A complimentary shuttle runs several times a day to a partner beach club on the coast with loungers and a seafood restaurant. Guests who want sand at the door usually stay at a beachfront hotel instead.
Is Anantara Villa Padierna for sale?
Its owner, Ricardo Arranz, put the hotel on the market in March 2025 with an asking price of €150 million, handled by the consultancy JLL. We found no announced sale by October 2026, and Anantara continued to operate it under the same name.
