We are often told that Puerto Banús fills up for the Spanish Grand Prix. It does not, and the map explains why: the Madring is 598 km away by road and Montmeló 1,041 km. What the race weekends do bring to the port is smaller and more useful to know: Sunday screenings in the sports bars, the usual supercars on the quay under the marina's pass rules, and visitors splitting a week between Madrid and the coast. Treat a race weekend in Puerto Banús as an ordinary high-season weekend: book what you would book in June or September anyway, watch the 3pm race in a sports bar, and if you are going to Madrid, put the port before or after the race, not around it.

Do the Spanish Grand Prix Weekends Fill Puerto Banús?
No. Spain's Formula One races are held at the Madring in Madrid and, in some years, at Montmeló near Barcelona, 598 km and 1,041 km from Puerto Banús by road. Both 2026 race weekends fell inside the port's busiest months, June and September, so the marina was busy, but because of the season rather than the race.
Where and When the Races Are
The Spanish Grand Prix moved to a new circuit in Madrid in 2026, and Barcelona kept a race of its own under a new name. From 2027, Barcelona alternates with Belgium, according to the 2027 calendar, returning in 2028, 2030 and 2032.

What a Race Weekend Looks Like in the Port
On a race Sunday the change in the port is in its sports bars, which show the 3pm start. The marina's berth tariff counts June to September as high season, so both 2026 race weekends fell in it, and the September one came twelve days before Tibu's Marbella Vice party on 25 September. Where Can You Watch the Race in Puerto Banús?
Two bars in the port advertise live Formula One: Red Lion Banús on Avenida Julio Iglesias, a sports bar with screens, darts and pool, and Linekers on Muelle de Ribera, which says it shows every sporting event broadcast. The Madrid race started at 3pm Spanish time in 2026, so arrive by 2pm for a table.

Red Lion Banús, at Avenida Julio Iglesias 28, lists Formula 1 alongside the Premier League, boxing and golf, opens from 11am to 2am Sunday to Thursday and to 2.30am on Fridays and Saturdays, and takes table bookings; its menu runs from English breakfast to burgers and pizza. Linekers, at Muelle de Ribera 5–10, claims to be the only bar in the port equipped to show every game, Formula One included, and sells group packages. For a big race, book a table at either rather than hoping for a stool.
Session Times to Plan Around
At the 2026 Spanish Grand Prix, first practice began at 1.30pm on Friday 11 September and the race at 3pm on Sunday 13 September, over 57 laps of the 5.414 km Madring, which runs 22 corners and a banked turn, La Monumental, at 24%. The 2027 race falls on Sunday 12 September. A 3pm start fits the port well: the race ends by about 4.30pm, which leaves time for the beach before dinner at 9.30pm.
Cars on the Quay: The Rules Behind the Display
The supercars parked along the Puerto Banús quay are there under the marina's access rules. For June 2026 to May 2027 a car needs an annual card or a one-day pass, €255 in high season and €185 from October; no car may stay more than 24 hours, and cars carrying advertising or sale or rental offers are barred.
Who Can Drive Onto the Quay
The marina's access card page and its 2026–27 conditions set the rules. An annual card for the general public costs €2,090, monthly passes from October run €294 to €376, and one card covers up to three registered plates, never at the same time. The marina can refuse entry when its parking is more than 90% full, and it can move badly parked cars to the breakwater or the boatyard at the owner's cost.
Watching the Cars Without a Pass
The cars are free to look at on foot. The front line from Plaza Antonio Banderas to the Dock of Honour viewpoint is about 650 metres, and the early evening, before the restaurants fill, is when the quay is easiest to walk. Do Prices Rise in Puerto Banús on Race Weekends?
Not because of the race. Prices in the port follow the season: the marina's berth tariff counts June to September as high season, and Tibu's minimums vary by night and event, not by the Formula One calendar. Our own rate does not move: €300 an hour on a race Sunday, in August or on a Tuesday in February.
What Actually Moves Prices
Three calendars matter more than the race: the season, the weekend and the port's own event nights. In 2026 the June race weekend fell at the start of high season, the September one near its end. Club tables are the line that moves most: Tibu's minimums depend on the night and the event, and its packages are not sold on event nights. The June and September Weekends Compared
The two dates suit different trips. Mid-June has the longest evenings and a sea of about 21°C; mid-September has warmer water, close to 22°C, and quieter beaches after the August peak. For a week split between Madrid and the coast, September works better because the coast stays warm after the race. How Do You Get From Puerto Banús to the Madring?
By train or plane via Málaga. High-speed trains from Málaga María Zambrano, 65 km from the port, reach Madrid in about 2 hours 45 minutes, and there are seven to nine direct flights a day from Málaga airport. The Madring is at the IFEMA exhibition centre beside Madrid-Barajas airport, so flying lands you next to the circuit.
Train, Plane or Car
Times from Puerto Banús, from our own route checks and the published journey times. Málaga airport handled 26.8 million passengers in 2025, according to Aena, so allow for queues on a race Friday.

Before or After the Race
Put the port before or after the race, not around it: arrive on the coast on the Monday after the race and the week runs the right way, from a crowded circuit to a quiet terrace. In 2027 the race is on Sunday 12 September, so a Monday 13 September flight to Málaga starts a week on the coast as the summer crowds thin. Driving It Yourself: Supercars and a Circuit Nearby
If the race leaves you wanting to drive, the port's own concierge catalogue lists supercar rental and a driving experience at Ascari, a private circuit on the Ronda road about 63 km from Puerto Banús. Rental supercars may park on the quay with a pass, but not with sale or rental signs on them.
Supercar Hire From the Port
The marina's experiences page advertises supercar rental with hundreds of models and colours, alongside yacht days and private flights booked through its concierge. On the quay itself, the marina's terms bar vehicles displaying offers for sale or rent.
A Track Day at Ascari
Ascari sits on the road from Ardales to Ronda, about 63 km and an hour and twenty minutes by road from Plaza Antonio Banderas. Its public website was password-protected when we checked in October 2026, so book through the marina's concierge or an operator who can confirm the date in writing. Allow a full day: the drive up, the briefing, the laps and the drive back before dinner.
Booking a Companion Around the Race
Two bookings suit a race weekend. In the port, a dinner date after the Sunday race, from €900, or an overnight at €3,000–€4,000. For Madrid, a travel companion at €5,000 a day, or €6,000 for the 48-hour weekend, plus flights and hotel, booked seven days ahead because travel bookings change free only until then.
To Madrid: A Travel Booking
A companion at the Madring is a travel booking: flights or train, the hotel, the grandstand ticket and the days around the race. Our travel companions are used to a full weekend in public, and an event like a Grand Prix is briefed as carefully as a gala. Travel bookings can be changed free until 7 days before and event bookings until 5 days, as our cancellation guide sets out; flight delays are never charged. A travel booking takes a 25% deposit by transfer or crypto, to her or to the agency, and the balance is paid to her at the start; flights and hotel are paid by the client.
In the Port: A Sunday Afternoon
The simplest race-day booking starts at the bar: the race at 3pm, a walk along the quay at five, dinner at half past nine. That is a dinner date extended by the hour at €300, or an overnight if the night continues. You pay her directly before the booking starts, by cash, bank transfer or crypto.
