The Best Time to Visit Marbella: What Each Month Is Good For

Every month in Marbella is good for something, and none is good for everything. August has the scene and the highest prices; February has the lowest prices and almost no beach life; the months between trade one against the other. We see the trade-off from the booking side at Marbella Escorts Agency, and our Marbella escorts guide explains how booking changes with the season. Here the question is simpler: what each month is good for, measured with INE's hotel figures rather than impressions. For most visitors the best time to visit Marbella is the first half of September or the second half of June: every venue is open, the sea averages 21 to 23°C and hotels charged 28 to 32% less than in August 2025.

Below, the verdict for each kind of trip, then the year month by month.

What Is the Best Month to Visit Marbella?

It depends on the trip. For swimming and space, early September; for the full scene, mid-July to late August; for long dinners and golf, May and October; for the lowest prices, February. September is the best compromise: warm sea, every venue open, and room rates about a third below August's.

September Against August, in Numbers

INE's hotel survey makes the case. Marbella's hotels recorded 271,548 guest-nights in September 2025, 78% of August's 350,366, while the average room rate fell from €369 to €253. The sea averages 21.8°C in September against August's 23.4°C peak, and the first days of the month are close to that peak. Lifeguards stay on duty until 30 September. What September lacks is August's crowd, which for most of our clients is the point.

Hotel figures give the plainest picture of crowds and prices. Rooms were 83% occupied in August 2025 and 40% in December, and the average rate ran from €149 in February to €369 in August. The table pairs each month's figures with what it is good for.

How to Read the Hotel Figures

INE counts hotels only, so villas and apartments, where many August families stay, sit outside these numbers. Occupancy is measured against the hotels open that month, and winter closures flatter it: 54 hotels were open in January 2026 against 80 in August. February looks busy at 61% because fewer rooms were for sale. Foreign guests outnumber Spanish ones in every month, by 4.7 to 1 in July 2025, and the year's total came to 2.54 million guest-nights. March, April and May: Golf, Holy Week and Long Evenings

Spring is the season for walking, golf and terrace dinners rather than swimming. Prices climb from €154 a night in March 2025 to €235 in May, Holy Week brings the Spanish crowd, and by mid-May the sun sets after 21:15. The sea averages under 19°C.

March: Quiet, Unless Holy Week Falls in It

March is cheap and calm: rooms were 55% occupied in March 2025 at €154 a night. Afternoons near 20°C suit the courses of Nueva Andalucía and the Sierra Blanca trails, but at about 15.6°C the sea is for the brave. The exception is 2027, when Holy Week runs from 21 to 28 March and the old town fills with processions and Spanish families. Book that week as you would a summer one.

April: Holy Week and the First Beach Lunches

In 2026 Holy Week ran from 29 March to 5 April, with Holy Thursday and Good Friday as holidays, and the beach clubs opened their seasons around it. With the clocks forward on the last Sunday of March, the sun sets at about 20:40 by 1 April. April is when lunch on the sand becomes reliable, though swimming waits: the sea averages 16.8°C. Rooms were 69% occupied in April 2025 at €189. Easter Monday is not a holiday in Andalusia, so Holy Week ends on the Sunday.

May: The Couples' Month

May gives fourteen hours of daylight by mid-month, with sunset at about 21:19, and the beach clubs open without August's door queues. 1 May is a public holiday, and Sotogrande's spring polo starts late in the month (26 May in 2026). Rooms were 76% occupied in May 2025 at €235, about a third below July's rate. The sea, at about 18.4°C, means the pools see more use than the water. For dinners outside, golf and a beach bed with space either side, this is the month we would choose.

June, July and August: Space, Then the Scene

June has the season without the crowd, July brings the schools and the galas, and August is Spain's own holiday month, when everything is busiest and dearest. In 2025 the average room rate went from €267 in June to €341 in July and €369 in August.

June: The Season Without the Crowd

Daily lifeguards start on 1 June, the Feria de San Bernabé took 8 to 14 June in 2026 and Starlite opened on the 19th. Spanish and Scottish schools break up in the last week of June, so the first three weeks are the calm ones; our beach season guide has the dates. The sea warms from under 19°C in early June to about 23°C by the end. Rooms were 79% occupied in June 2025 at €267.

July: Schools Out, Galas On

Most English schools broke up between 17 and 24 July 2026, the charity galas begin late in the month and Sotogrande's International Polo started on 27 July. July can now cost more than August: the average room rate was €416 in July 2026 against €378 in August. For beach clubs, Starlite and long evenings it is excellent; for a quiet beach, the mornings before eleven are the only quiet part.

August: The Scene at Its Peak

August is Spain's holiday month: Spanish guests spent 75,121 nights in Marbella's hotels in August 2025, more than in any other month, and total hotel nights peaked at 350,366. Rooms were 83% occupied at an average of €369. The superyachts are in Puerto Banús, Málaga's feria runs around 15 August and the sea peaks at 23.4°C. September, October and November: The Value Months

Autumn has the best balance of warmth and price. September keeps the sea and the venues at a third off August's room rate, October adds a film festival and two ferias, and November turns quiet, with rooms 55% occupied and €171 a night in 2025.

September: The Best Swim for the Money

The first half keeps a sea close to August's without August's crowd. Mijas Pueblo's feria peaks on 8 September, the lifeguards stay until the 30th, and from 14 September 2026 the Avanza airport coach runs 37 direct services a day. The AP-7 still charges its summer toll until 30 September, €9.25 from Málaga to Marbella against €5.70 from October. By the end of the month the sun sets at about 20:05 and the evenings cool. October: Festivals and Warm Afternoons

The film festival runs from 7 to 12 October, the Hispanidad festival from 9 to 12 and San Pedro Alcántara's feria from 13 to 19, with a Monday holiday on the 12th. The bathing season ends on 15 October with the sea still near 20°C, and clocks go back on the 25th. Rooms were 72% occupied in October 2025 at €206, a month we recommend for couples who want warmth without crowds.

November: Quiet Weekdays, First Rains

November is when the year turns: most beach clubs have closed, the first autumn storms arrive and rooms were 55% occupied in November 2025 at €171. Monday 2 November gives Spanish visitors a long weekend; after that, weekdays are empty. It suits walkers, golfers and anyone who wants a restaurant table without booking. The town hall's guided countryside walks, free except the Caminito del Rey outing, run from late October to May.

December, January and February: Festive, Then Empty

Winter splits in two. The festive fortnight from 24 December to 6 January brings returning residents, galas and higher room rates; the weeks after Reyes are the emptiest and cheapest of the year, with February's €149 average the lowest rate of 2025. Most beach clubs and much of the nightlife close.

December: A Festive Premium

Rooms were only 40% occupied in December 2025, yet the average rate, €227, beat November's €171: the Constitution long weekend (5 to 8 December in 2026) and New Year's Eve galas at €290 to €1,270 a head carry the month. Christmas Eve is a family night, so many restaurants close early or serve one sitting, and on the shortest day the sun sets at about 18:08. January and February: The Lowest Prices

After the Reyes parade on 5 January the coast belongs to residents. Only 54 hotels were open in January 2026 and rooms were 38% occupied; February's average rate was €136 that year. Days reach about 17°C, sunset moves from 18:15 on 1 January to about 19:00 by mid-February, the restaurants have tables and the golf courses have tee times. Booking a Companion Month by Month

Unlike the hotels, our rate does not follow the calendar: an hour is €300 in February and in August, on a Tuesday or a Saturday. What changes is availability. In summer, ask a few days ahead for a named companion; from November to March, same-day bookings usually work.

Rates and Notice Through the Year

An hour with one of our Puerto Banús escorts costs €300, as anywhere in Marbella, and two hours cost €600 in every month. What moves with the season is notice: June and September need two or three days for a named companion, April, May and October a day or two, and July and August a week or so. Which Booking Suits Which Month

June and September are the months for a yacht day, when charters are easier to find than in August; we price her time at €300 an hour, and the boat and the food are paid separately. May and October suit a dinner date on a terrace, three hours at least, from €900. In July and August some clients take a companion on to Ibiza; a travel booking is €5,000 a day, or €6,000 for a 48-hour weekend, plus flights and hotel paid by the client. Winter suits longer, unhurried bookings: with same-day availability, choosing a particular companion is easiest between January and March.

Is June or September better for a beach holiday?

September, by a little. The sea averages 21.8°C in September against 20.9°C in June, and early September water is close to the August peak of 23.4°C, while early June water can be below 19°C. Hotels charged €253 a night on average in September 2025, against €267 in June.

When is Marbella least crowded?

January. Marbella's hotels recorded 71,273 guest-nights in January 2026, about a fifth of that August, and only 54 hotels were open against 80 in August. Weekdays in late November and February are almost as quiet. The festive fortnight to 6 January is the exception.

When is the best time for nightlife in Marbella?

Mid-July to the end of August, when beach clubs run full programmes, Starlite has a concert most nights and the superyachts are in Puerto Banús. August is Spain's own holiday month, so Spanish guests peak then too. June and September keep most venues open with shorter queues.

Is Marbella worth visiting in winter?

For golf, walking, restaurants and low prices, yes: afternoons reach about 17°C in January and hotels charged €158 on average in January 2025. Beach clubs and much of the nightlife close, and the festive fortnight from 24 December to 6 January prices well above the rest of winter.
