Why Resort Dining Here Is Unusually Good
Because the resorts predate the town's restaurant scene. Marbella was built around two hotels in the 1950s and 1970s, and their restaurants were the coast's dining rather than an adjunct to it. That history still shows.
The Resorts Came First

How Access Works for Non-Guests
Exactly like any restaurant: you book a table and you arrive. Resort restaurants in Marbella take outside reservations as a matter of course and a substantial share of their custom is not staying at the hotel. There is no gate.
Booking as an Outside Diner
Book directly with the restaurant rather than through the hotel where possible. You will be asked whether you are a guest, which is for billing rather than for access. Arrive at the restaurant entrance rather than the hotel reception where there is a separate one — the plazas at Puente Romano are open to the street.
Parking and Arrival

The Resort Classics Are Underrated
The long-standing restaurants inside the older resorts — the ones without a famous name above the door — are frequently the best rooms for an actual dinner: well spaced, quiet, professionally served and not turning tables. The single best reason to eat inside a resort: drinks, dinner and a club within one complex, with no taxi at any point. On this coast, where transport at four in the morning is a genuine problem, that is worth a great deal. Particularly if you are staying there.
A Whole Evening in One Place

The plaza still works: you arrive by taxi once and leave by taxi once, with everything in between on foot. Compared with a Marbella evening that involves three separate journeys, that is a meaningful simplification — and taxis at the Golden Mile at two in the morning are easier to find than in the port.

Where the Value Is
Lunch. The same kitchens serve at midday at considerably lower prices, on the same terraces, with the sea in front of you. A resort lunch is one of the better-value good meals in Marbella and almost nobody books one — which is the same argument our seafood post makes about the quayside.
How Do You Book It?
One to two weeks in summer for the good rooms, a few days out of season, and six to eight weeks for anything starred. Take the earlier seating if the table is meant to be yours for the evening. Two things to specify.
Request a Terrace Table
From May to October, always. These properties were built around outdoor dining and the terrace is the reason to eat there rather than anywhere else. Ask when booking and book early enough that the request is possible — in August the terraces go first.
With a Companion
