Finca Cortesín: The Secluded Alternative to Beachfront Resorts

Key Takeaways:
  • Finca Cortesín is a 67-suite, five-star Gran Lujo resort on a 215-hectare estate in Casares, opened in March 2009, about 40 minutes west of Marbella
  • Its Cabell B. Robinson course hosted the Volvo World Match Play in 2009, 2011 and 2012, then the 2023 Solheim Cup, the first played in Spain
  • No restaurant on the estate holds a Michelin star in the 2026 guide; the Japanese room that once held one as Kabuki Raw is now REI
  • The beach club at Bahía de Casares has a 35-metre infinity pool but opens only from spring to October, so winter stays revolve around the spa
  • Casares lies 40 minutes beyond Marbella, so the minimum is two hours, you pay her taxi, and we tell you when we quote if the distance adds to the price; overnights and multi-day stays suit it far better than an hour

Drive 40 minutes west from Marbella, past Estepona, and turn inland onto the MA-8300 for Casares. A kilometre up the hill a private roundabout leads into olive groves, whitewashed courtyards and a championship golf course, and the coast you just left disappears. Clients ask us about Finca Cortesín every season, usually after a summer of Golden Mile crowds, and our Marbella escort agency arranges bookings there more often than the distance would suggest; the Estepona escorts page covers the nearest town. Finca Cortesín is the right choice if you want space, golf and quiet more than a beach and nightlife at the door, and the wrong one if you plan to be in Puerto Banús every night.

Below is what we tell clients: the drive and its tolls, which suite to book, the golf, the restaurants as they stand in 2026, the seasonal beach club, and how a companion booking works this far down the coast.

Where Is Finca Cortesín, and How Far Is It From Marbella?

Finca Cortesín sits on the MA-8300 just inland from the coast at Casares, between Estepona and Manilva. Central Marbella is about 42 kilometres away, roughly 40 minutes on the AP-7. Málaga airport is 95 kilometres, about an hour and 15 minutes; Gibraltar airport is 37 kilometres, about 40 minutes. Two routes from Marbella, and one of them costs money.

From Marbella: 40 Minutes and One Toll

The quick way is the AP-7 toll motorway to Estepona, then the A-7 coast road west towards Manilva, then right onto the MA-8300 for Casares. The hotel has its own roundabout about a kilometre up. The AP-7 stretch from Marbella to Estepona costs €3.85 in 2026, rising to €6.25 from June to September and over Easter, according to the Ministry of Transport's 2026 toll tables. The free A-7 through Estepona is slower, with roundabouts and summer traffic. From Puerto Banús allow 35 minutes.

From Málaga or Gibraltar Airport

Málaga is the airport most clients use, and from here it is the long way round: 95 kilometres and about an hour and 15 minutes, with the AP-7 toll from Málaga to Estepona at €9.55 off-season and €15.50 in summer. Gibraltar is closer, 37 kilometres and around 40 minutes, and handy from London, but it has a fraction of Málaga's flights. If yours lands there, it saves about half an hour on the road. Our Málaga airport transfer guide compares the car options.

Casares Is Two Places

Do not confuse the hotel with the village. Casares proper is a white village on a ridge 13 kilometres further up the MA-8300, about 20 minutes from the hotel, built around a 12th-century Moorish castle and known as the birthplace of Blas Infante, the father of Andalusian nationalism. The resort is down near the coast, about two kilometres from the sea, with the Sierra Bermeja behind it. Tell a taxi driver "Casares" at midnight and you may end up in the village, so give the hotel's name.

What Finca Cortesín Is: 67 Suites on 215 Hectares

Finca Cortesín is a 67-suite, five-star Gran Lujo hotel, golf and spa resort in Casares, opened in March 2009 on an estate of more than 215 hectares. It is built as a modern cortijo, an Andalusian country house, with whitewashed courtyards, four-metre ceilings and no standard rooms: the smallest suite is 52 square metres. Which suite you choose matters more here than at most hotels.

A Country House Built in 2009

It looks centuries old and is not. Architects Roger Torras and Ignacio Serra designed it, sisters Ana and Cristina Calderón styled each suite differently, and some of the flooring was reclaimed from an 18th-century Portuguese convent. The Costa del Sol hotel association, AEHCOS, lists it as five-star Gran Lujo; the Michelin Guide gives it one Key; and Travel + Leisure's World's Best Awards ranked it the top resort hotel in Spain and Portugal in 2023. The useful fact for a guest is the layout: low buildings, patios and gardens, so you rarely share a corridor. Our best hotels guide has the short version.

Which Suite to Book

AEHCOS lists 28 Junior Suites, 18 Executive Suites, 16 Executive Sea View Suites, four Pool Suites and one presidential Cortesín Suite. On the hotel's own figures, Juniors are 52 square metres with a patio or terrace; Executives 77, with a separate lounge; Garden Suites 95. The four Pool Suites are 80 square metres with a 60-square-metre terrace and a private pool facing the sea; with only four of them, book early for summer. The Cortesín Suite runs to 180 square metres. Families take the two-bedroom Family Suites or Villa La Reserva, four bedrooms in 420 square metres.

The Course That Hosted the Solheim Cup

Finca Cortesín's 18-hole course, designed by Cabell B. Robinson, hosted the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012 and the 2023 Solheim Cup, the first held in Spain. It is long, generously wide off the tee and fast on the greens, and hotel guests book tee times through the concierge. The tournament history explains the set-up.

Match Play, Then the Solheim Cup

In 2009 the World Match Play left Wentworth for the first time in its history and came here. Ross Fisher beat Anthony Kim in that final, Ian Poulter beat Luke Donald in 2011, and Nicolas Colsaerts beat Graeme McDowell in 2012. The 2023 Solheim Cup was played from 22 to 24 September and finished 14–14, the first tie in the event's history. Europe kept the trophy after Carlota Ciganda holed the decisive putt on the par-3 17th.

Playing It as a Guest

The seventh is the hole people remember: a 452-metre par four that the club calls the longest on the Costa del Sol. The 11th is a 573-metre double-dogleg par five with a stream down the right. The green fee includes a GPS buggy and range balls, and rental clubs cost €60 for TaylorMade or €75 for Honma. In July and August take the first tee time of the day, because the course is exposed and the afternoons are hot. Our VIP experiences guide covers the other big courses, Valderrama included.

Does Finca Cortesín Have a Michelin Star in 2026?

No. None of the estate's restaurants appears among the starred restaurants in the Michelin Guide Spain 2026. The Japanese restaurant won a star in 2015 as Kabuki Raw; renamed REI and still run by chef Luis Olarra, it now carries a Repsol Sun instead. It remains the best reason to dine in. The other rooms close on different nights, so plan the week.

REI, the Signature Room

REI pairs Japanese technique with Mediterranean seafood and vegetables from the estate's own garden, and you watch Olarra work in the open kitchen. Dinner runs from 19:00 to 23:00, Tuesday to Sunday, so it is closed on Mondays. Book it early in the stay rather than on the last night, so that a second visit is still possible. For starred cooking back along the coast, our Michelin-starred Marbella guide lists the current rooms.

Don Giovanni, El Jardín de Lutz and the Rest

Don Giovanni is the Italian, run by Sicilian chef Andrea Tumbarello, whose Madrid original holds two Repsol Suns; it serves from 19:00 to 23:00 and closes on Wednesdays. El Jardín de Lutz, under Lutz Bösing, cooks modern Spanish food on a terrace over the olive groves and serves breakfast from 07:00 to 11:30. Lunch happens at Pool 35, beside the 35-metre pool, at the Clubhouse overlooking the course or at the beach club. On a Monday REI is dark; on a Wednesday Don Giovanni is.

The Beach Club in Summer, the Spa in Winter

Finca Cortesín is not on the beach. Its beach club is a short shuttle ride away at Bahía de Casares, with a 35-metre infinity pool and a restaurant on the sand, and its published hours run only from spring to October. Outside the season, the 2,200-square-metre spa and its indoor pool carry the stay. Check the dates before you pack for the beach.

Bahía de Casares: 6,000 Square Metres, Seasonal

The beach club covers 6,000 square metres, with Balinese beds around the pool and direct access to the sand. In July and August it opens daily from 11:00 to 20:00; in spring and September it closes early in the week; in October it opens Wednesday to Sunday. Food is served from 13:00 to 17:00. A courtesy shuttle runs from the hotel and suite rates include access. The beach itself is an ordinary public stretch of coast: quiet and pleasant, nothing like Nagüeles in August.

The Spa for the Rest of the Year

The spa covers 2,200 square metres, with a heated salt-water indoor pool, thermal baths, a gym and a Thai Spa of ten treatment rooms and one double suite; four of the rooms are kept for traditional Thai massage, and treatments use Biologique Recherche products. The ARANI yoga centre sits on a hill above, looking at the mountains and the sea. In January, with the beach club shut and the golf at its best, this is where the afternoons go. Our winter in Marbella guide covers what else runs out of season.

Finca Cortesín or a Golden Mile Beachfront Resort?

Choose Finca Cortesín for space, golf, quiet and a suite you will not want to leave. Choose a Golden Mile resort such as Puente Romano or Marbella Club for the beach at the end of the garden and Puerto Banús ten minutes away. Forty kilometres separate them, and you feel every one of them at midnight.

Side by Side

Mr & Mrs Smith currently lists Finca Cortesín from about £505 a night for autumn dates; the Golden Mile column describes the two landmark resorts.

Who Finca Cortesín Suits

Golfers, obviously. Couples who want three days of doing very little in a Pool Suite. Anyone staying a week rather than a weekend, for whom the drive to Marbella is an occasional outing rather than a nightly commute. And visitors pairing the coast with Sotogrande, 20 minutes west, for the polo in July and August; our polo season calendar has the dates. It suits people who already know Marbella. First-timers usually want to see the town before they hide from it.

When the Golden Mile Wins

Short trips, first visits and any stay built around evenings out. A taxi from Puerto Banús back to Casares at 03:00 is a 34-kilometre ride, and on a three-night trip that adds up. On the Golden Mile you can walk the seafront promenade into Marbella in under an hour; here, everything beyond the estate means a car or the shuttle. In high season the resort also runs a kids' club for four- to 12-year-olds, so August is more family-minded than May. Our review of every five-star hotel in Marbella covers the beachfront alternatives one by one.

Booking a Marbella Escort at Finca Cortesín

Casares lies beyond Estepona, outside Marbella, so the minimum is two hours and you pay her taxi, and we say so when we quote if the distance adds to the price. A companion travels around 40 minutes each way, so a short visit rarely makes sense; dinner dates, overnights and multi-day stays are the formats that work here.

Why We Quote Casares Individually

Estepona, Benahavís, Mijas and Sotogrande carry a two-hour minimum, with her taxi paid by you. Finca Cortesín lies beyond them, and the price can rise with the distance and the start time, which we tell you before anything is confirmed. Companions who already take bookings at the Sotogrande end of the coast are the natural fit, and the distance from everything is exactly what clients who stay here are paying for.

Overnights and Longer Stays

An overnight of 10 to 12 hours is €3,000–€4,000 depending on the companion and the length, and suits the place: dinner at REI, the terrace, a slow breakfast. For two or three days we quote the nights together, and a travel companion booking, €5,000 a day or €6,000 for a 48-hour weekend plus flights and hotel, can work out better than stacking evenings. Arrival is by car to the main entrance, and a guest receiving a visitor is unremarkable at a resort like this. Our guide to escort-friendly hotels in Marbella explains how we handle hotel arrivals generally.

What to Send Us

Your dates, the suite type, any table booked at REI or Don Giovanni and the time, and how much of the stay you want company for. A day's notice is comfortable for an overnight; multi-day bookings need about a week, and a booking made in advance takes a 25 per cent deposit, paid to her or to us, with the balance to her at the start. Mention your arrival airport and time too, so the first evening is planned around your check-in. If a dinner date is all you need, say so: we will tell you honestly whether the drive makes it worthwhile.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far is Finca Cortesín from Marbella?

About 42 kilometres, or 40 minutes by car using the AP-7 toll motorway to Estepona and then the coast road towards Manilva. Puerto Banús is about 35 minutes away and Málaga airport about an hour and 15 minutes. The Marbella to Estepona toll is €3.85, or €6.25 from June to September.

Is Finca Cortesín on the beach?

No. The hotel sits among olive groves and golf holes about two kilometres from the sea. Guests use its beach club at Bahía de Casares, reached by a courtesy shuttle, which has a 35-metre infinity pool, daybeds and a restaurant on the sand. The club opens seasonally, roughly from spring to October.

Which tournaments has Finca Cortesín hosted?

The Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2009, 2011 and 2012, won by Ross Fisher, Ian Poulter and Nicolas Colsaerts, and the 2023 Solheim Cup, the first played in Spain. That match ended 14–14, the first tie in Solheim Cup history, so Europe retained the trophy.

Can a companion come to Finca Cortesín?

Yes. Casares is beyond Estepona, so the minimum is two hours, you pay her taxi, and we say when we quote if the distance adds to the price. Overnights and multi-day stays suit the location better than short visits. Send the dates, your suite type and any dinner reservation, and we confirm a companion and the price.

When is the best time to stay at Finca Cortesín?

May, June, September and early October, when the beach club is open, the course is playable all day and rates sit below the July and August peak. Winter stays are quieter and cheaper and centre on the spa and the golf, because the beach club closes once the season ends.

Planning a Stay at Finca Cortesín?

Send us your dates, your suite type and any restaurant bookings at REI or Don Giovanni. We confirm which companions can travel to Casares on those dates and send the price, with her taxi, before anything is booked.
